Why can’t my property charge a virtual credit card?
The main reasons properties may have trouble charging a virtual credit card are:
Error |
Solution |
The card isn't active yet |
Check the activation date of the card |
Insufficient funds |
Check the card's available balance and make sure that the card was not previously pre-authorised |
Too many attempts to charge the same card ( the system prevented further payments for security reasons) |

If you receive questions from properties, you can clarify the process according to the information above. For more information on how to solve potential issues relating to payments, you can also advise properties to have a look at our guide to receiving online payments .
How will my properties pay the commission for bookings paid online?
Commission for these bookings works the same way as for any other booking. Tripeden.com doesn’t charge extra commission for the reservations that have been paid online.
Properties will receive a gross payment for all bookings where the guest has paid online, accompanied by an email with the invoice and payout statement (also available under the ‘Finance’ tab of the extranet).
The invoice shows all bookings from the previous month – both paid online and paid at the property. A breakdown of online and in-person guest payments can be found under the ‘Finance’ tab in the extranet.
How much is the transaction fee for properties?
The transaction costs on our virtual credit cards are between 2% and 3%, plus any other processing fees from properties’ own banks. The minimum fee is 2%, but it can vary depending on individual country laws, payment processors and particular banks.
If you receive questions from your properties, you can advise them to contact their bank or payment processor to find out more about these fees. Regardless of the nature of these fees, the virtual credit card is a payment solution that’s guaranteed to be safe, secure and reliable.
How do exchange rates affect virtual credit card payments?
Exchange rates don’t affect virtual credit card payments as long as the room prices that properties set (the load price) are in the same currency as the one used to charge the virtual credit card (the local currency).
If properties receive a virtual credit card payment in one currency but charge it in a different one, exchange rates can apply, depending on the bank’s buy rate. Buy rates are variable rates that banks use for foreign exchanges. Buy rates can usually be checked on a bank's website, or by calling them directly.
Who takes care of any extra charges guests might incur?
With Online Payments, extra fees and charges are usually included, unless they're broken down per person and set to ‘Excluded’ in a property’s settings. These excluded, per-person charges need to be charged by the property directly.
