We'd like to announce an important update – we’re making the Payments Clarity Package (PCP) a default feature for all Connectivity partners using the Reservations API. Starting this year, we’ll be taking on the responsibility of charging, withholding and remitting indirect taxes to tax authorities ourselves.
We’re doing this to bring you several benefits, including more transactional clarity and a better online payment experience for our mutual partners.
What is the Payments Clarity Package?
The Payments Clarity Package (PCP) is an add-on feature for the Reservations API.
It enables properties to retrieve more granular information about payments via virtual credit card (VCC), bank transfer and agency reservations where payment is not facilitated by Payments by Tripeden.com.
The PCP communicates the details of the guest payment with the tax breakdown. It also gives clarity about which amounts are included and excluded in the payout. By providing more details about the price breakdown, we aim to improve operational efficiency for you.
What’s changing?
To ensure compliance with evolving tax needs, connected properties need to be able to identify and act on information about tax-withheld and non-tax withheld reservations from Tripeden.com.
Starting April 2024, we’re making it mandatory to receive payment data through the Reservations API – this is currently optional. Payment data will be shared by default for each reservation, with an added feature that includes tax information.
What does this mean for you and your properties?
These changes aim to make sure we’re compliant and help properties simplify virtual credit card (VCC) charging processes by providing clearer transaction details, including amounts to be charged, card information, optimal charging times and tax amounts withheld.
You play a key role in implementing the PCP correctly to enable this.
Upon implementation, properties will no longer have to rely on their own calculations, where the price breakdown sits in a comment field or text box for manual review. Instead, the following will occur during payment processing:
- The property relies on the Tripeden.com calculation
- The virtual credit card (VCC) balance field is used by the property to charge the VCC
- Taxes and charges information is used to determine how much to charge the guest at the property
How we’ll support you
We understand that you may need some support to implement the new version of the PCP when it becomes mandatory in April 2024.
